DIRECTOR & HOST, NTN24 TV, 2013-CURRENT
I’m director, editor & host of CST [Science, Health & Technology] a daily TV Spanish language program available across the US and Latin America to more than 8 million viewers. I produce segments straight from the latest batch of peer- reviewed journals, interview researchers and engage the public on and off-line. The show is currently one of its kind in the American media landscape, and will host one of the two first AAAS’ Spanish language Mass Media Fellows in the summer of 2014.
HOST, “THREE14” SPANISH PUBLIC NATIONAL TV, CURRENTLY IN POST-PRODUCTION
Tres14 is the main science show in the Spanish National TV cultural channel La 2. There I serve as host and conduct interviews -called transconversations– with world-class artists and intellectuals, exploring the arts-science interface and leveraging their popularity to expand science’s appeal among new audiences.
MANAGING DIRECTOR, IMAGINE SCIENCE FILMS, 2013
I served as Managing Director of the Imagine Science Films Festival of New York, a week-long yearly event that brings together scientists who dedicate their lives to studying the world we live in and filmmakers who have the power to interpret and expose this knowledge, ultimately making science accessible and stimulating to a broader audience. I managed production and staff, as well as events, social media, etc.
SPANISH LANGUAGE PRODUCER, NPR’S SCIENCE FRIDAY, 2012-2013
I created, produced and hosted the weekly Science Friday en Español podcast, produced and translated science videos, wrote and edited the Spanish language blog and coordinated a growing number of collaborations with high profile media partners. I also produced and hosted TV segments in collaboration with NTN24.
CHIEF PRODUCER, NTN24 TV, 2011-2012
NTN24 is a Spanish language, international TV channel, broadcasting 24/7 in the US, the Caribbean and Latin America. I managed the New York bureau with a total of three full-time journalists, three videographers and an assistant producer. As Chief Producer I also managed administrative matters and IT, among others. I started in the company as Assistant Producer and was promoted shortly after to Chief Producer.
DIRECTOR, EXEC. PRODUCER, WRITER & HOST, DOCUMENTARY “SEARCHING FOR THE FIRST EUROPEAN”, 2009-2010
I developed, produced and directed a one-hour TV documentary about human evolution in collaboration with the Spanish National Public TV. I raised the necessary funds in the span of two years. The production budget reached $275,000, a record for non-natural-history, science productions in Spain and a bold push forward in the history of the Ministry’s economic involvement. The documentary, in the guise of a road movie, had a great reception among the public in Spain, reaching some 2+ million viewers as of early 2014 [note Spain’s relatively small population is 47 million].
CO-CREATOR, WRITER & HOST, “THREE14” SPANISH PUBLIC NATIONAL TV, 2007-2008
I co-created, wrote and hosted a half hour, weekly TV show addressed to a popular audience that covered science and technology topics. The show gained critical and popular acclaim in its five seasons in Spain and Latin America. I’m hosting it’s 6th season, currently in post-production.
WRITER & PRODUCER, “NETWORKS”, SPANISH NATIONAL PUBLIC TV & SMARTPLANET, 2005-2007
I wrote and edited short reports, produced televised debates and edited a complete episode of the classic science TV program “Redes” -directed by Eduard Punset and edited by Pere Estupinya- during a year and a half as staff for SmartPlanet Productions.
